Post-Stroke Fatigue

Stroke is unpredictable, but one extremely common effect of stroke is fatigue. Some studies indicate that as many as 70 percent of survivors experience fatigue at some time following their stroke. Unlike exertional fatigue that we feel after working in the yard, post-stroke fatigue occurs from doing typical everyday tasks or sometimes from not doing anything. “It is a fatigue associated with the nervous system, which is quite difficult to understand,” said Jade Bender-Burnett, P.T., D.P.T., N.C.S., a neurological physical therapist in Falls Church, Virginia. “It’s very frustrating to the person who’s living with it because, unlike exertional fatigue, poststroke fatigue doesn’t always resolve after you take a break, or get some rest.” Read the full story in our digital edition or on the web. The big day is tomorrow! Here is a reminder: Where: Stanley Park 400 Western Ave. Westfield, MA 01085 When: 05/13/2017  Get Directions When: 05/13/2017 3 Mile Walk rain or shine! Registration: 9:00 AM Walk Start: 10:00 AM - Use the Main Entry (Gate 1)and follow parking signs. - Dogs are welcome. - Who does your torch burn for? Torches will be available for a $10 donation. - The Donation Drop-off Area is only used for dropping off donations and signing the waiver if you did NOT pre-register. - Don’t forget to sign the Legacy Wall. - Red caps for adult survivors and capes for child survivors will be provided. - Who are you walking for? We will have Tribute Stickers available. - T-Shirts will be available for participants who have raised funds prior to the event or dropped off $100 or more at the event.
