National Minority Health Month is Upon Us!

National Minority Health Month is Upon Us!
April is synonymous with springtime, showers and.... National Minority Health Month! To welcome the warm weather and change the health conversation, the American Heart Association's EmPOWERED To Serve movement, the overarching program for many initiatives including Power To End Stroke, has created several activations to engage you in our health conversation. Here are several ways to stay in-tune as we prepare for May flowers and American Stroke Month.
Catch Us on the #FlipSideOfHealth
The Flip Side of Health is a campaign that will push you to explore health from two perspectives.
On one side, we will address the traditional way we tend to look at health -- from the lens of our own personal health choices. On the flipside, we will address how the systems that surround day-to-day activities affect the choices that immediately and/or eventually impact our health.
Catch us on the #FlipSideOfHealth by adding to the conversation and retweeting our daily posts on @Power2EndStroke. Like our Facebook page, Power To End Stroke and visit empoweredtoserve.org for more resources!
This month's features:
  • Dee-1, the 'Sallie Mae Back' artist and AHA Volunteer teaches us about increasing healthy living behaviors with Life's Simple 7.
  • Personal stories from diverse stroke survivors and caregivers.
  • Dr. Karen Sopko, Hear from #PowerWomen and Native American Cardiologist as she shares her thoughts on Native American health.
  • #POWERWomen episodes, featuring Terri Ludwig, President & CEO, Enterprise, Monica Moss, First Lady Trinity Church, Spelman College and Columbia University Graduate, Sonya Lockett, former BET Executive and Award Winning Health Activist, Janay Smith, Managing Director of The Jock Michael Smith Collection, President of The Moogle Group and philanthropist, Tanya Odom, Global Diversity and Inclusion Consultant and Coach, Meredith Henderson, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. North Atlantic Regional Director and Pamela G. Johnson , National Vice President, Multicultural Markets, AHA. Tune in to hear them discuss the following topics:
What makes you so passionate about health?
Importance of your well woman's visit
The Impact of HBCU's and Hispanic serving institutions in America today
How housing is working to impact health justice
